Joyce Nelson, CNM
Joyce is a Certified Nurse Midwife with a Masters degree in nursing. She has extensive experience and training in maternal / child health. Joyce has been a registered nurse since 1984 and midwife since 2000. She has attended home, birthing center and hospital births. She is an advocate of family centered care for healthy women. She integrates your dreams and desires for an ideal birth with safe evidenced-based care and her experience.
Individual care is given throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum for each woman and family. Her positive outlook and encouraging nature help to empower the woman to experience the miracle of birth.
“I believe that labor and birth are a normal and natural occurrence in a woman’s life, best served by allowing the natural process to unfold without unnecessary intervention. Supporting and nurturing women and their families at such a unique and special time is my calling.”
Married for 34 plus years, she has experienced both hospital births and homebirth with her four children.
“My first two births were by Cesarean section; my third was a VBAC at a large teaching hospital in Cleveland Ohio. My last child was born at home, at the family farm, in the same room that my mother and aunt were born in. It was an amazing experience, one that I would hope for everyone.”
Robin DeStefano, LM, CPM
Robin DeStefano is a Certified Professional Midwife who has been attending home and birth center births since 1984. She has trained with three Certified Nurse Midwives and worked for a Dallas birth center from 1993-97 before joining Family Centered Maternity Care in 2001. Robin has also been in private practice since 1997 and has served families all over North Texas.
Robin is the mother of six children who were born out of the hospital. She and her husband of 33 years have home-schooled all of their children. They are now enjoy three grandchildren.
Alexandra Wyatt, LM, CPM
Alexandra Wyatt is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Licensed Midwife who has been attending home and birth center births since 2008. After relocating from California with her family, she received her license in midwifery in early 2013 and came on staff at Family Centered Midwifery Care. She first began this journey as a Birth Doula in 2004 and has received training in various childbirthing techniques, such as HypnoBirthing and Bradley. Midwifery is a “calling” for Alexandra; something she feels God always meant for her to do, and loves that she gets to spend her time helping women feel more empowered through their journey into motherhood.
Alexandra has been married to her amazing husband since 2005 and has two beautiful children. While both were water births, her daughter was born at a birthing center and her son was born at home into her own hands, while her husband and daughter looked on. She feels so blessed to have such a wonderful family who have always supported her and provided endless encouragement. They are Alexandra’s greatest gift.
